Byte Monk's Advance
This is the place that was known as Byte Monk's Retreat. We've had enough retreating and decided to advance instead. That is the reason for the name change. It is just a simple and logical reason.
If nobody ever advanced, then where would we be today? You may give some very good arguments against some of the things we call progress, but consider the benefits of the good things. Perhaps we wouldn't have some of the negative things, but what would we have had instead?
What might you have done differently, if you had been in the place of any of the "Great Men" of history? Think twice before you answer that one.
Computers are a fact of everyday life whether we like it or not, and I don't see how they will ever disappear from our lives without a serious catastrophe or other drastic thing happening. It is up to us who create, maintain, operate, or otherwise are responsible for either computer hardware or software to do what we do in a good and responsible manner. Just because some computer people act otherwise is no excuse for the rest of us to do less than the best that we are able to. People like to talk about their rights and freedoms, but what about the responsibilities that go along with those rights and freedoms?
That is what this site is all about in the first place.
We will be trading ideas, thoughts, and personal philosophies as a means of working together to be the best we can be. Please park your ego problems outside -- if you have any. We will approach this as equals on the road to better computer understanding and better computer use.
